FirstBlock invites Quinte West Chamber members, business and community leaders to learn more about its proposed project at the former Sonoco site. The project would attract more than $500 million in private investment support 300-450 construction jobs at peak, and create approximately 300 permanent jobs at full build-out, most of them in greenhouse agriculture, with the remainder in data centre operations, maintenance, and technology. It would include a 40-acre greenhouse and an indoor vertical farm heated with recovered energy from the data centre.

Why this matters.

A motion before City Council could pause all new data centre development in Quinte West for up to one year. If adopted, this would prevent this project from moving forward. We believe the concerns raised can be addressed through a balanced solution that protects the community’s interests while allowing the project to proceed.

As conversations continue at the municipal and regional level, it’s important that the Chamber understands where our members stand and what factors shape your position.
